Ted :(
When Joss Whedon spoke of using the comic medium for expanding his tv series in ways that weren't possible on the screen THIS is was what I was expecting. Scott Lobdell has his share of critics but the man knows characters and how to connect events to each other.

And oh yeah, the second half of DEAD TED too! )

Booster Gold # 26 HUGE SPOILERS

You're my What?!
Fitting that it should be raining today. I went to my LCS earlier than I usually do so most of the new comics were still on the shelf. I snuck a peep at the new Green Lantern Corps issue to see what was going to get Guy so pissed off. And yep that would do it. Pretty sure a lot of fans might go red over it too. I was a little peeved that the rings were being charged for 25 cents when they should be free but I like my LCS and figured why not.

JLI Blue and Gold Action Figures

Corky being inspirational
I only got these two because I just wasn't as interested in the rest. I didn't think they captured Ice which is why I didn't bother to get Fire. Their much larger than the other Booster Gold and Blue Beetle action figures. About the same size as each other which doesn't really work if you're a nitpicky fan that knows that Booster (who's supposed to be taller than Batman and Superman) is the same height as Ted, who by superhero standard is short.

Booster protecting time
Looking around my LCB I noticed that not many, if any, are buying Cry for Justice. Sure it's the first day on the shelf but other books out today don't have nearly the same amount filling up their space. There was also a notice about next months tie ins to Blackest Night with the free rings asking for customers to reserve a copy so they have an idea how many to order. I made sure that I put one in for Booster Gold, because I don't intend to miss the issue because someone else wants the ring. Being low on funds I didn't get the second Drusilla issue or the new Angel. :(

I wasn't too sure about how this would turn out last issue but I'm thrilled with this one. So much to geek out about! SPOILERS of course.

I got the trade for Booster Gold Reality Lost arc which is slightly more than I had to pay to get three normal issues today. At least their comics I enjoyed.

Thoughts on Superman 3 and 4

  • Aug. 9th, 2009 at 12:54 AM
You're my What?!
Finally re-watched the first Superman (along with 4) movies before I saw the third for the first time. There's a lot of WTF-ness abound with Superman having random powers and an immortal decree from his dead parents with mingling with mortals. The third one is so bad it has the makings of a great Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode written all over it. You'd think that the Silver Age writers made it with the levels of Super-dickery it has. And if you didn't understand anything I wrote in the last two sentences you're not nearly as geeky as I am.

Spoilers for these movies and cracky plotlines )

I got the Spike After the Fall Hardback and naturally had a few thoughts. So more randomness I suppose.

Booster Gold #21 w/BB second story

Rip Hunter Badass
Due to me following the DC website releases dates for this book (though I know it's released every second week) I didn't get it until the next day. I was very pleased to see that I got the last issue at my LCBS. Sales apparently have been slipping so hopefully this will keep up. I'm not sure if the extra interest (last months' issues were gone too leaving only 1 issue of Brave & the Bold) is because of the second feature and/or the sort of Batman tie-in. I'm guessing that the other buyers said something about it to the guy at my store because he commented on it for once. Admitting that though he hasn't read it he's heard that "Dan" Kord/Blue Beetle is back. I told him that it's still up in the air.

Yea! )

You're my What?!
I finally got around to getting the Kelley Armstrong written Angel after hearing horrible talk about it. While this wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe it wasn't the same quality as Brian Lynch.

Booster Gold once again proves entertaining though I really believed Jurgens was going to explore Booster on Booster action for a second.

I know that some people will be annoyed with the identity of Mr. Pink but I was actually impressed with Dan Jurgens choice. One that makes a lot of sense, ties up loose ends and raises more questions.

I'm not sure how I feel about this issue yet. I think it partly has to do with me worrying whether it meets other peoples' standards when people were putting down the last two writers for not being Johns/Katz.

You're my What?!
I really enjoyed this issue, more so than the previous one. I truly hope that at some point Rick Remender and Dan Jurgens can plot more ideas together (RR said that the plot point will be used again) because I adore this.

How to do a good Booster Gold story?

  • Nov. 3rd, 2008 at 2:13 PM
You're my What?!
As we all know reading forums does tend to get on your nerves. But in this instance it is worrisome. People are dropping the book, cursing the fill ins and basically saying that without a big name writer the character has no where to go. So I decided to take a look at what did work under Johns and Katz and compare it to the fill in stories plots (which it should be noted don't have as much time to grow due to their two issue limit.)

Why do you enjoy a comic? )

I wasn't sure about how Rick Remender would work as a writer for Booster Gold given all the criticism he received for his run on the All New Atom. I liked his interview though and found the ideas promising enough to get me exited about his arc on my favorite book. And given that the Atom WAS already being canceled when he took over it's likely that he was told what to certain things to wrap it up. This issue also marks the first time ever that a Booster Gold issue was not drawn by Dan Jurgens. The art is done by Pat Olliffe who I was first introduced (and loved) from Spider-Girl (which sadly is once again on the canceled block.) Pat was also with Rick on the previous mentioned Atom issues (which will be mentioned later) and had drawn Booster, Skeets, Danel and Rip in 52.
